My Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Summer is in full swing and maybe I am a little late with this post, but I want to share with you my favorite summer items. In 2 weeks I am going on a vacation, and another one it the beginning of September. Along the following lines, you will find out which are the items I will put in the suitcase first.

Linen Shirt.

Linen is one of the most ancient textiles in the world. Dyed linen fibers have even been found in prehistoric caves, proving that these fabrics were used 36,000 years ago. In ancient Egypt, linen was so valued that in some cases it was even used as a currency.

This summer I’m trying to shop smarter and buy only things that won’t go out of style. And since linen has been a trend for tens of thousands of years, I couldn’t help but buy at least one shirt. I wear them everywhere – on the beach over my swimsuit and in the city with jeans or shorts. Well, I can’t use it as a currency to buy gin and tonic at the beach bar, but at least I know that whenever I wear it, I look very chic.

Straw Hat.

Straw hats are believed to have been worn in Europe and Asia as early as the 15th century when field workers protected themselves from the strong sun and the rain. In the 1700s, French women wore straw bonnets, and in 1887, Vincent van Gogh even immortalized his straw hat in a self-portrait.

As you can see, this popular accessory has come a long way until it becomes a must-have for any woman’s summer wardrobe. When it comes to my wardrobe, I add at least 2 new hats every summer, and I can say that I am addicted. The straw hat not only protects me from sunstroke but is also the perfect finish to any beach look.

Basket Bag.

Baskets are a trend that will stay forever (at least in my heart). Their role as a fashion accessory began in the 50s. Worn mainly to beachside destinations, at that time they were a symbol of high status for those wealthy enough to go on vacations regularly. Of course, the woman we most often associate with this style and who makes straw bags popular is Jane Birkin. In the 60s and 70s, her iconic basket was seen in almost every photo.

I have 2 of these bags – one smaller for the city and one large, which is perfect for the beach. When I want an outfit that is casual and Parisienne romantic in the same time, I always carry a basket. So even everyday clothes like jeans and sneakers can look stylish and feminine.

Sun Protection.

I will start with the beginning of that famous speech by Kurt Vonnegut, in front of the graduates of the ’97 class of MIT: “If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.”

My skin is very light and sensitive. I can say this is the accessory I wear every summer day and I always have it in my bag. Years ago I neglected this type of skincare, which I now regret and compensate with the use of 50 SPF. The products I use were sent to me as part of an influencer campaign last year, but I liked them so much that I bought the same ones this summer. Below I will add a few more sun protection products that I really like.
